TUITION INFORMATION
REGISTRATION
Registration for the following year takes place in February. Parents are to fill out a Family Tuition Payment Commitment and provide a $200 registration fee per family at the time of registration. The registration fee is part of the total tuition and will not be refunded after July 1. Tuition payments should be made using the tuition coupons given to you at the beginning of the school year.

PER STUDENT EDUCATIONAL COSTS
The educational cost for each St. Bernadette student for the 2004-05 school year was $6,235. The per student educational cost includes the following components:
  • Books, supplies, learning and testing materials
  • Technology needs and equipment
  • Portion of overall building and grounds maintenance and repairs
  • Portions of overall Archdiocesan assessment to the Parish
  • Teachers, school staff, and administration salaries and benefits
Tuition rates are established to make Catholic education affordable for most people and do not cover the entire per student education cost. A subsidy is provided by the entire parish community and is over 60% of the per student educational cost for those students whose full cost is not covered. The balance of the per student cost is paid by families attending school in the form of:
  • Tuition fees
  • Third source funding (Bingo, Market Day, other fund raisers)
  • Program fees (technology, field trips, et cetera)
While parish subsidy in the form of weekly financial contributions and tuition are two major sources of funding for the school, third source funding is vital to the generation of revenue necessary to meet the parish budget. Without third source funding, tuition would increase significantly; thus, family participation in these programs is critical. The School Choice Program funds the entire per student educational cost for eligible students and no additional parish subsidy is required.

TUITION SCHEDULE
The tuition for St. Bernadette School varies according to the number of children and membership in St. Bernadette Parish. Contact the School Office for specific numbers. If tuition is not paid by February 28, approximately 1.5% per month through May will be added to the total tuition due. All tuition must be paid in full by May 30. Report cards will not be released at the end of the year until tuition is paid in full.
Note: The Tri-Parish School Alliance Committee for St. Bernadette, St. Catherine, and Our Lady of Good Hope Schools has adopted the same tuition schedule for all three Catholic Schools in our Tri-Parish Alliance.

FAMILY COMMITMENT
The St. Bernadette Parish community recognizes that the Catholic education of its children is a very important responsibility. Catholic education is a cooperative venture among parish, school, and home.

The financial support of the school is shared by all parish families through weekly financial contributions to the parish, and by school families through their weekly financial contributions to the parish, tuitions, and fund raising activities. It is expected that each Catholic school family who is eligible for the parishioner tuition discount will:
  • Attend Mass regularly on Sunday with their children. There are no exceptions to this Church precept. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: "Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin."
  • Raise their children in the Catholic faith.
  • Contribute their time and talents and participate in parish activities.
  • Meet their financial commitment as expressed on an annual pledge card filed with the Parish Office.

Decisions on extending parishioner tuition discounts will be made by the pastor. It is expected that all school families take their decision to enroll in St. Bernadette School seriously, understand the obligations of that decision, and agree:
  • to raise your children, if not Catholic, in the religious traditions of your own family;
  • to pay tuition promptly;
  • to attend Home & School meetings and participate in school fund raisers;
  • to adhere to the policies as written in the Family-Student Handbook; and
  • to volunteer whenever possible and support the school in other ways.
These obligations will be reflected in the annual Family Tuition Payment Commitment form which is to be completed at registration. If any of the above obligations cannot be met, please discuss the situation with the principal.

TECHNOLOGY TUITION
A Technology Tuition of $115 per child is payable as either a lump sum or incorporated into the monthly payment each school year. This helps to defray the ongoing costs of operating and maintaining the computer technology laboratory to ensure our students have updated equipment, resources, software applications, and Internet access capabilities.

FAMILY REFERRAL
Current families and students are the best positive recruitment effort that can be made to increase enrollment. Share your school choice with friends and neighbors. Copy the school flyer that is included on the inside back page of the Family-Student Handbook for a new family. Any current school family who is identified in a referral by a new family enrolling children into the school program will receive a tuition credit of $100 for the following school year if the new family remains for the entire school year. Families should ensure they are mentioned by name as a referral when the new family completes the enrollment contract. Referrals after that time will not be honored and multiple referrals will not be split among families.

TUITION OPTIONS
School Choice
St. Bernadette participates in the Milwaukee Parental School Choice Program. Eligibility is based upon household size and family income. Application forms are available in the School Office.
P.A.V.E.
Families who are not eligible for School Choice may qualify for P.A.V.E. scholarship assistance. Information can be obtained in the School Office.

FINANCIAL OBLIGATION
Frequent notices are sent to each family during the school year with their current standing with regard to tuition. In fairness to all the families who faithfully meet their financial obligations, we must insist that tuition be paid according to the tuition schedule you have chosen. Children of families who have not paid at least 1/2 of the tuition by the end of December will not be allowed to enroll for the second semester which begins at the end of January. Children of families who have not paid the full tuition by May 30 will be removed from our class lists for the following year. These children will not be re-admitted until all past financial obligations have been met, and then only if there is still space in the class. Be advised: report cards will not be issued and records will not be forwarded to a new school if tuition is still outstanding.

Eighth graders will not be allowed to participate in graduation ceremonies and end-of-the-year activities unless all tuition and fees are paid in full by May 15. These families will be notified of their standing in January. All first and second semester delinquent payments must be made in cash.
