Northwest Catholic Athletic Association
The collective collaboration of St. Bernadette, St. Catherine, and Our Lady of Good Hope parish schools has helped create the Northwest Catholic Athletic Association (NCAA). The individual parish athletic directors began to discuss the need to combine programs in early 2003. After many long hours of planning and discussion, the Northwest Catholic Knights first took the field in the Fall of 2004. The purpose of the NCAA is to provide all the Day School and Religious Education students in all three parishes with the opportunity to experience sports within a Christian context. We strive to teach the students new physical skills and help them become knowledgeable about the various rules, while helping them recognize and respect other students’ physical and athletic capabilities and talents.
The Athletic Board, in charge of coordinating all the athletes and coaches, is made up of 18 volunteers representing all three parishes. The volunteers hold various positions ranging from sport coordinators and parish liaisons to Treasurer and Gym Coordinator. The merging of the three parish programs into one has been a very rewarding activity for those involved.
The Athletic Board is looking for anyone who feels strongly about helping continue the work that has been started. There are opportunities for everyone who wants to help. If you are interested in helping, please contact Steve Gilles. (Call any Parish Office for Steve's phone number.)
