ENTRANCE SECURITY SYSTEM The building entrance security system is activated at all times. Anyone entering the building must use the Parish Office entrance and buzz the Parish Office for admittance. Visitors to the building, including parents, are not to enter through any other door at any time before school, during the school day, or at dismissal time. Students are not to open any door for visitors, including parents VISITORS All visitors to school must report to the Parish Office before going elsewhere in the building. All visitors, including parents, are to sign in and get a "Visitor" pass from the Parish Office. Anyone not a student or staff member without a "Visitor" pass will be directed to the office to get one. Parents or other interested parties are not allowed to observe a class in session without previous approval by the teacher and the administration. Messages or forgotten belongings are to be delivered to the child through the office, not directly to the classroom. Student visitors are allowed only with prior consent of teacher and administration. Alumni are considered visitors, and should abide by the above procedures. Please understand, we want the children to be aware of people in the building they do not recognize. Not following the above guidelines defeats that goal. DISMISSAL DURING THE DAY Any student leaving early will be sent to the office and not dismissed from the classroom. Parents must report to the office to pick up children leaving early. DISMISSAL AT THE END OF THE DAY Safety cadets on duty are to be dismissed at 2:55 p.m. and exit through Exit 6. All other students are to stay in the classroom until after prayer and announcements. Teachers will lead their class to the outside door after the principal or designee calls their classroom. Grades 4-8 exit through Exit 6, Grades K-3 exit through Exit 1. Adults picking up children at the end of the day are to meet them on the playground outside and are not allowed to enter the building through Exit 6 at dismissal or any other time. If you need to meet your child inside the school, report to the School Office before dismissal and your child will be called to the office at announcement time. SEARCH AND SEIZURE Student desks are the property of the School and at no time does the School relinquish its exclusive control of desks/storage space provided for the convenience of students. Periodic general inspection of desks/storage space and any items in the desks/storage space may be conducted by school authorities for any reason, at any time, without notice, without student consent, and without a search warrant. All contraband items (alcoholic beverage, controlled substances, knives and weapons) shall be confiscated and deposited with the principal. Officers of the law, appearing with duly processed search warrants, will be accorded the right to inspect as per the court's order. The school attorney should be informed as soon as possible and consulted in regard to any questions of legality.TORNADO We have a tornado protection plan at St. Bernadette. If there should be a tornado WARNING (a sighted tornado has the possibility of touching down in our area) at the time of dismissal, students will be kept in the school building until the danger has passed. FIRE SAFETY We have a fire evacuation plan at St. Bernadette. Periodic drills of the evacuation plan are held throughout the year in conjunction with the Fire Department. Annual Fire Awareness and Safety sessions are also conducted. PHONE CALLS Your child may make a phone call home from the office phone if there is an important reason for calling and with the permission of the classroom teacher. The office charges 10¢ for a call. Please have your child carry a dime for an emergency phone call. Students are not to use other phones in the building without prior permission from a staff member.
