| | School Policies STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIESThe following are guidelines regarding student responsibility and behavior in each of the four major areas relating to the development of the whole child. INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT Each student is expected to: - Help maintain a good learning atmosphere in the classroom by respecting the rights of both students and teachers.
- Fulfill the requirements of each activity, including religion, physical education, art, music, and computer, according to the guidance of the teacher.
- Be responsible for his/her own learning, retention, and expression.
PERSONAL AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT Each student is expected to develop an ever-growing respect for self (both personal and physical), classmates, and the entire staff. This will be shown in the following ways: - Respectful communication with all members of the school community.
- Proper use of equipment, whether personal or that of peers or the school.
- Honest dealings with others at all times.
- Participate in all physical education activities and active recess play.
- Develop lifelong health habits with regard to diet, exercise, and sleep.
SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT Each student is expected to develop good social habits in whatever situations are presented to him/her. For example: - Playground behavior must be safe and healthy, and exhibit inclusive behavior to ALL students in activities.
- Cafeteria behavior should reflect what parents would expect in a restaurant: quiet talking, walking at all times, eating a balanced meal with proper table manners.
- Movement in the corridors should, at all times, be quiet and businesslike.
SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT Each student is expected to show, at all times, due respect to the church, liturgical celebrations, religious materials, and others engaging in religious exercises. STUDENT RULESGENERAL Rules exist to protect the rights of all individuals in the school community and to foster a positive learning environment. The best rule to follow is to always treat individuals and property with proper reverence and respect. Any student who violates this basic rule in any way should expect to face consequences of that behavior. SAFETY All individuals are entitled to attend school in conditions of safety, and any action which endangers the safety of another person or property is considered a most serious offense. Compliance with the Safety and Security guidelines outlined in the Family-Student Handbook is essential. VANDALISM If a student willfully or through negligence causes any school property or material to be destroyed or rendered unusable, the student and/or the parents shall be financially responsible to repair or replace the damaged item. This includes textbooks, since they are school property. Writing, drawing, or coloring on one's self, uniform, desk, or any school property is not allowed. ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT Radios, tape recorders, beepers/pagers, cell phones, CD players of any size, and CDs are not allowed in school. AEROSOL CANS Hair spray or any aerosol or pump spray is not to be brought to school. GUM During the school day, no gum chewing is allowed. BEHAVIOR The following behavior shall be observed in the areas indicated: CORRIDORS
Follow directions. No talking. No running.Stay on the right side of the corridor.Have a pass when in the corridor during class time.
CAFETERIA Follow directions politely.Speak in a soft voice using appropriate language. No running.Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.Clean up after yourself (floor, table, chair).
PLAYGROUND Follow directions. No "play" fighting, fighting, teasing, or inappropriate language.Use equipment properly.Stay within boundaries.Enter building quietly or line up quietly as soon as the bell rings.DISRESPECT Any action of disrespect or defiance towards school staff, teachers, or visitors will not be tolerated and students will face consequences of that behavior.
PARTIES Although the social life of students is not the domain of the school, it can affect the morale of students. We ask, therefore, that unless ALL the students in a class (or all the girls/all the boys) are invited to a student's party, that the invitations be sent through the mail and not be given out in school or on the playground. COMPUTER/INTERNET POLICIES Anyone using school computers will be required to sign an "Acceptable Use Policy for the Use of Computers and Telecommunications" and abide by all pertinent requirements and responsibilities.
